That’s a good question. When I think of the major leader of his generation, I think brother Tavis Smiley. When you look at The Covenant movement, when you look at State of the Black Union, look at the Tavis Smiley Foundation with young people, when you look at what he does on t.v. everyday, when you look at the art exhibition he’s going to have, just on so many different levels, he embodies what it is to both love and serve and still be a celebrity. It’s so rare these days, that you get a celebrity who’s willing to use that visibility and form a service to the people. But at the same time, in addition to my dear brother Tavis, I think there are a number of local people who might not know about at the moment who will also surface, because in the end, the most important leaders are the ones who surface out of grassroots activism. This culminated into white suburban pre-teens to young adults becoming the number one consumer of hip-hop music. Essentially meaning that the most commercially relevant consumer of the art did not literally identify with the artists creating it.
